Through Planetary Extractions, we gather scholars, artists, and activists to think through modes of knowledge-production and collaboration that are not extractive within the university, an institutional form created through the extraction and commodification of land, life, and sovereign Indigenous intellectual traditions. Composed of two plenary conversations and three panels, this symposium will engage diverse groups of faculty, post-docs, and students at Dartmouth and create a space dedicated to generating new, interdisciplinary collaborations around the study of race, Indigeneity, and the environment.

Show Your Stripes Climate Bracelets
April 22nd | 1:30-4PM
Russo Gallery, Dickey Center
#ShowYourStripes was established by climate scientist Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading. This striking graphic, showing a range of blue to red stripes, represents temperature averages for each year after the industrial revolution. The cool blues to warm reds demonstrate an increase in temperature for over 150 years.
To help raise awareness, climate scientist and consultant Dr. Jenny Baeseman has created bracelet kits that reflect the colors of the stripes for each year. Each stripe, or bead in the bracelet, clearly expresses the warming trend of our planet. We have all experienced the repercussions of a warming planet, and it is especially impactful in polar regions.
On Earth Day, Institute of Arctic Studies and the Dickey Center are holding a community event for students to come together and build their own bracelet. 10% of the proceeds from the kits we have purchased are donated to a non-profit organization that supports our understanding
of climate change, or toward education on
climate change action.
Each bracelet takes around 20 minutes to complete.
