Here's what's happening this week in Sustainability!



Thanks to everyone who came out to the Los Angeles Community Fundraiser Dinner, organized by Fossil Free Dartmouth and sponsored by Dartmouth Sustainability! In total, $900 was raised for the LA Fuerza Fund to support folks impacted by wildfires in LA.

 

TUESDAY, JANUARY 28th

CAREER TALK WITH DR. KIRA LAWERENCE
4:30PM - 5:30 PM | Steele 006 | Friday, January 31
  • “From Studying the Past to Shaping the Future: Science in Service to the Public Good”

    • Dr. Kira Lawrence is the Senior Policy Advisor for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU), working collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams to develop novel energy policy to inform the fossil to clean energy transition in New Jersey.

    • Prior to serving in this role, Dr. Lawrence worked in BPU’s Division of Clean Energy as a Senior Scientist and the environmental lead for the BPU’s offshore wind program as well as briefly serving as the Acting Deputy Director for Offshore Wind.

    • Dr. Lawrence is an earth and environmental scientist with expertise in climate and ocean sciences. She holds an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, Master’s degrees from the University of California Santa Cruz and Brown University and a PhD from Brown University. Prior to her work with the BPU, Dr. Lawrence spent nearly two decades in academia as a Professor at Lafayette College serving as both co-Chair of the Environmental Programs and as Chair of the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences.

 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1st

  • Come swing by our on-campus thrift store, the Free Market, this weekend! All clothing is reclaimed from Dartmouth's waste streams. Instead of buying new clothing, get second-hand for free!

OTHER EVENTS

Friday, February 28 | In-person, Columbia University | 9:30AM - 3:30PM
  • The fair is a great way to meet potential employers looking to hire students for jobs and internships. This annual event hosted by Ivy League universities connects students with employers representing areas including (but not limited to):  

    • City, regional, and environmental planning, design and policy

    • Energy markets and renewable energy

    • Green building design and natural resource management

    • International and community development

    • Product design, consumer goods and supply chain management

  • SIGN UP FOR THE BUS (Graduate students pay $25, undergraduate students are free.)

    • Please complete this form to sign up and pay for bus transportation to the fair. The fee is $25 for graduate students only and will be charged to your DA$H Discretionary account. Please make sure you have the funds in your account. You will receive a confirmation email when charged.

  • IF YOU ARE COMING ON YOUR OWN - The fair runs 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM ET in-person on the Columbia University campus at: Alfred J. Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway NY, NY 10027.
